Although they were first introduced maybe twenty years ago, goldendoodles lately become very popular. You will probably find at least one good goldendoodle breeder in your area, and find out more about these adorable dogs. They are actually a cross breed between poodles and golden retrievers, and this mixture is surely a guarantee of high intelligence and beauty.

One specialty line called English Goldendoodle is especially popular. It is a cross breed between English golden retriever and the poodle. They have boxy heads and shed very lightly. They are well tempered, smart and gentle. One of them could become a perfect family dog for you, especially if you have children.

This special cross breed come as medium sized dogs, with 35 to 50 pounds, and as large, above 55 pounds heavy dogs. Their color is mostly light, creamy, and the quality of coat can vary. Some dogs will have loose hair, and some will be quite curly. This first breed generation is the direct product of breeding those two species.

In another generation, also called F1B, the first generation is mating with poodles. Resulting Goldendoodle puppies have three parts of a poodle, and only one of golden retriever. That’s why they can be smaller, somewhere around 15 to 30 pounds, but not always. They come in beautiful colors like cream, apricot and champagne, for example.

If you mate two first generation dogs, you will get F2 goldendoodle puppies for sale. Of course, you can also make different varieties, with different percentages of original species. This is usually done to achieve some appealing characteristics of particular species. Poodles don’t shed, and more poodle blood in this particular species means lighter shed.

Coats may vary in adult age. Some puppies will have shaggier hair when they grow up, and some will become curly. Some puppies will even have straight, shiny, easy to maintain hair like retrievers. Experienced breeders will know how to recognize your preferable coat quality at early age.

Hybrid dogs combine different qualities of both species. They possess so called hybrid vigor, in those first generations when two unrelated breeds are mated. Their health is very good, as well as growth, and they have exceptional fertility. In other successive generations, this vigor fades.

Each Goldendoodle breeder has to test his breeding dogs for genetic diseases. Hips are especially sensitive area. Respectable breeder will check everything and sell you perfectly healthy, happy dog. He will also provide two year health warranty. Learn how to be a responsible dog owner and enjoy the time spent with your new furry friend.
